National Chiao Tung University and Meridigen Biotech Co. Ltd signed an industry-university collaboration project to combine the research of functions of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) with bioinformatics and the analysis of big data. The project was looking forward to decipher the mechanism of human mesenchymal stem cell (hMSC) in the repair and protection of damaged nerves. Further, the application of stem cell in precision medicine and personal medicine would be developed.
The goal of Meridigen was devoting the development of comprehensive stem cell new drugs to create a healthy future for all mankind. The research and development (R&D) group was under the leadership of Yogi Hsuan, the general manager of Meridigen, to develop the use of stem cell in medical treatment. Meridigen discovered that hMSCs had functions of repairing and protecting damaged nerves under the Parkinson’s disease cell model and hypoxia neuron cell model.
To more understand the affects and influences of hMSCs to the damaged nerves, the R&D group further collected the microarray image data of hMSCs. The R&D group was trying to resolve the mechanism and key factors of damaged nerves repair by the combination of bioinformatics and big data analysis.
The first collaboration project was under the leadership of professor Jinn-Moon Yang and associate professor Zhao-Qi Huang.
